The Poly-V® belt is installed on grooved pulleys. The pulleys can be solid or spoked.
Smooth pulleys can also be driven on the rib side of the Poly-V®. However, the surface contact of a smooth pulley is less than half of a ribbed pulley, precautions must be taken during the design of the drive.

The pulleys and idlers must comply to the ISO 9982 specification which includes the following information:
- Naming conventions.
- Geometry.
- Surface finish.
- Run-out.
